■ The true work experience.
In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson. -Tom Bodett
What is the term 'work experience' really about? It is not those hackneyed answers about gaining exposure and insights in whichever fields, but rather, to learn lessons that we could not possibly learn in school. I had truly learnt, as a student, after witnessing the politics played in my workplace today.
After the incident Gary told me, "you must study and be educated, so to prevent people stepping on your head." So what's the point of studying and reaching to the top? Here the answer is, in this meritocratic society. We may have undergone different paths in our education journey and eventually end up working in the same place one day, but what really differentiates us is the power we hold and the hierarchy we are in, and that, inevitably, is proportional to our educational background after all.
